Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars and appear at around the ages of 17-21. Usually, they grow in at the back of mouth. You’ll get two teeth on top and two on the bottom. This makes the tooth count up to 32 permanent teeth which is the typical total for an adult. Actually, wisdom teeth help to grind up food to make it easier to swallow. In fact, wisdom teeth were helpful for our ancestors to grind the food as they used to consume raw and uncooked food like meat and vegetables. However, it is not the case with us as we consume cooked, soft food that is easier to consume. As human anatomy has evolved throughout the history, our mouth has become small and our diets have changed. So, we don’t need them anymore.

But, wisdom teeth are wider and strong. However, that is if they did their job properly and didn’t cause so many issues.

So, why are they problematic?

Unfortunately wisdom teeth don’t bring you bouts of wisdom. Instead, they create a lot of problems. They can cause pain and discomfort. Apart from the growing pains when they erupt in, they can be a big issue without even breaking the surface. This is why most of the dentists recommend wisdom teeth removal.

Erupt in the wrong angle

There is a good chance that when wisdom teeth erupt, they will come through incorrectly. Often, there won’t be enough space on the jaw-line to accommodate all four wisdom teeth and this is when the problem begins. Yes, since there is no space, wisdom teeth can get trapped under the gum line and become impacted. So, they can come through at an awkward angle, sideways or perhaps only part of the way and it can have a huge impact on your surrounding teeth and cause a lot of dental problems.

Infections

If the wisdom tooth get stuck and doesn’t break the surface, bacteria can buildup, leading to infections. Besides, if they are erupted partially, cleaning becomes difficult. Impacted wisdom teeth can also lead to gaps between the wisdom teeth and the back molars that create more spaces for bacteria to thrive. The infection is not treated, it can lead to cavities and gum disease as well.

If you have any concerns about your wisdom teeth, your best option is to consult your dentist. A dentist will give you the best advice and guide you about the wisdom teeth removal price Sydney. Some dental clinics offer discounts for removing all four wisdom teeth in a single sitting.

Sometimes, wisdom teeth do not cause any problems. But, that doesn’t mean you can have them. Your dentist is the right person to determine whether you need to remove your wisdom teeth or not.
