The third set of molars, popularly known as wisdom teeth erupt between the age of 18 and 25. If the mouth has enough space to accommodate the wisdom teeth then they emerge into the expected position without causing any trouble. However, in a significant percentage of individuals, wisdom teeth fail to erupt properly and the patient is forced to handle the cost of wisdom teeth removal in Sydney.
Failure to erupt is called impaction and there are four different types of impaction that can be commonly observed in both men and women. Read on to find out more about each impaction type in detail.
  • Mesial Impaction
When the wisdom tooth leans towards the front tooth, it is called mesial impaction. The angle at which it leans forward differs and this determines the complexity of the situation. When the tooth grows and tries to erupt, then the bottom of the tooth pokes into the gums. Generally, the dentist allows some time for the teeth to erupt and then determines the need for wisdom teeth removal in Sydney.
  • Vertical Impaction
Vertical impaction is the least problematic situation as there is a high chance for the wisdom tooth to erupt and fit into the dental arrangement of the patient. However, in some rare cases, the tooth tends to push against the lower part of the front tooth or against the back part of the mouth. In such cases, the patient is forced to bear the cost of wisdom teeth removal in Sydney. Vertical impaction is relatively less risky and can be handled without surgery in most cases.
  • Horizontal Impaction
Horizontal impaction is rare and happens when the tooth is almost at 90 degrees to the adjacent tooth. In this case, it is highly recommended to opt for the removal process as early as possible. There is no way that this type of impaction can get better with time and ignoring this impacted tooth could cause severe pain to the patient.
  • Distoangular Impaction
Wisdom tooth that is tilted backwards and is angled against the rear end of the mouth is called distoangular or distal impacted teeth. This type of impaction causes pain to the back part of oral region but are relatively an easier target for extraction. This impaction type is the opposite of mesial impaction and the angle of inclination is important to understand the complexity of the situation. For instance, if the impacted tooth is set at 90 degrees then it is sure to hit the bone and cause pain. Dentists wait for a year or two to understand how the tooth grows and if the direction of growth demands wisdom teeth removal in Sydney.
